The magical puppets will enchant you and your family. Many historical puppets of the world-famous Salzburg Marionette Theater are exhibited at the Salzburg Puppet Museum. The "World of Puppets" adventure museum has many highlights to offer. Already at the entrance you will be greeted personally by a three dimensional animation by Archbishop Wolf Dietrich.

You can also see Papageno and Papagena from Mozart's "Magic Flute", a stage dedicated specifically to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, giving an idea of how Mozart used to travel. A special attraction is also the stage, which shows the fortress and farmers in the framework of the peasant riot in the year 1525. Experience this unforgettable journey through time!

Location & Directions to the "World of Puppets" Museum on Fortress Hohensalzburg

The World of Marionettes Museum is located on Salzburg Fortress which you cannot miss! The majestic castle is perched above the city center and is visible from afar. Here you will find the shortest route to the museum attraction.


Salzburg Fortress - Salzburg's landmark – is located in the heart of Old City above and behind the cathedral. You can walk to reach the Fortress or take the funicular railway which takes you directly there. Once there, go left up the stairs of the bell tower, then left again and after 20m our unique museum is on the right side. Have fun!

From A1 / A10 Villach and Munich A8

Take the exit for the airport and drive into town along the ‘Innsbrucker Bundesstrasse’. At the junction of the ‘Innsbrucker Bundestrasse’ and ‘Neutorstrasse’  turn right and follow the road all the way in the direction of ‘Zentrum’ (Centre). After about 2 km you reach the Neutor (Sigmundsgate), directly before the Neutor you can turn right into the old town garage car park A or B. In the garage you will find signposts directing you to the Fortress (Festung Hohensalzburg).
