Unique events from Dream Weddings to Corporate Celebrations are available in the Fortress
The beautiful River Salzach flows through the lovely old city between the majestic Kapizinerberg and Monksberg city mountains, while perched high above it is the largest fully preserved fortress in central Europe. Salzburg Fortress began being built in 1077 by Archbishop Gebhard. The fortress not only served to protect the clergy and the general population but was also the place in which the archbishop invited selected individuals to attend lavish parties and celebrations.
Here, high above the roofs of Mozart’s city surrounded by centuries-old fortress walls you will find the ideal opportunity to dine and celebrate. The breathtaking view from the terraces and many rooms of the panoramic restaurant over the city and countryside is unique and unsurpassable and will impress you and your guests. The choice of many rooms can accommodate any kind of celebration and are the ideal setting. From the cozy Pine Room (14 people) to the historical Coat of Arms Hall (150 people), any size of party can be catered for. With a little luck you might even enjoy a sunset on the horizon – you could not offer guests more.
In winter, you have a unique and impressive view from the terrace above the old city whilst enjoying a welcoming drink of Glühwein (mulled wine), fruit Punsch or Brandy Punsch (Flaming Tongs Punch), and the chance of using the highest Eisstockbahn (Austrian form of Curling) in the city of Salzburg. Not to mention the atmospheric Christmas Market in the courtyard of the fortress which is open from Friday to Sunday between 10am and 7pm.
Access to the fortress is hardly comparable with the old times — the modernized funicular railway takes you up to and down from the fortress in less than 1 minute.
