It is practically impossible to miss the Fortress Hohensalzburg. The Castle towers majestically above the “Old Town” area and can bee seen from a great distance. Here you will find the shortest route to the Knight’s Feast in the Burgsaal (Castle Hall).
Location
You will find the Fortress Hohensalzburg – the Landmark of Salzburg – in the heart of the “Old Town” behind the Cathedral. You can reach the fortress on foot or you can take the funicular rail car directly up to the fortress. This will place you in close proximity to the Fortress Restaurant and the “Burgsaal” (Castle Hall).
Arrival by Car:
Coming from the A1 / Villach A10 / and the Munich A8 Autobahn
Exit the Autobahn on the “Flughafen” (Airport) offramp and then take the “Innsbrucker Bundesstrasse” going towards the city center. Where the “Innsbrucker Bundesstrasse” forks, turn right into the “Neutorstrasse” and follow this street in the direction of “Zentrum” (City center). After approx. 2 kilometers (1 ¼ miles) you will reach the “Neutor” (Also known as the “Sigmundstor”). Just before you enter the “Neutor” you can turn right into the “Old Town” garage to park your car. Right as you exit the garage there are already signs showing you the way up to the Fortress Hohensalzburg.
